4 Transactional Emails your Small Business Customers Will Love

Establish a great relationship with all your customers through relevant, helpful communication. Each time you communicate with your customers, you want to let your professionalism and great customer service shine through. You can accomplish this even through email communications. You may have wondered what kind of emails you can use most easily to build your customer relationships. The answer is transactional emails, and below, I’ll outline which transactional emails are best and how to make them shine.

1. Purchase confirmations

Whenever a customer buys something, you can send them a friendly confirmation email that acts like a receipt. Use the opportunity to suggestive sell other items that make sense based on their order. Encourage the customer to contact you if they need anything and leave contact information. You want to leave the customer feeling great for having chosen to buy from you. Make sure your email fits your brand well by matching your words and images to the style of your small business- sophisticated, tough, trendy, etc. If done well, the customers will feel like you get them when they read your email.

2. Shipment communications

When you ship items to customers, shoot them emails to let them know their items are in the mail. Provide them with tracking numbers whenever possible and links to the appropriate company to track their shipments. Your customers will appreciate knowing what’s going on with their shipments. It gives you another opportunity to put your company name in their heads and suggestive sell additional items or services. Just don’t be pushy about it. Make sure the customer can tell that you are trying to be helpful, not sales-y.

3. Service changes

All services are regulated by service terms. By law businesses are required to alert customers to changes to their terms of service. Emailing these notifications to your customers saves you money and can be an opportunity to get customers thinking about your company, which will hopefully lead to an eventual sale. These emails can be very mundane, but take the opportunity to thank your customers for choosing to use your services. Take advantage of these opportunities to make your business look caring and professional.

4. Account based

Whenever your customers make changes to their account, send them an email to confirm the changes. This includes sending out a welcome email when a customer first signs up. Once you get a new customer, make sure your new customers feel special and part of an exclusive group that gets your exceptional customer service. Make sure to include contact information and links to helpful resources. Make sure all your emails exude professionalism and great service. Another important account based email is the automated password reset email. Customers want to be able to easily reset their passwords in a secure environment without having to call technical support. Demonstrate to your customers that you can provide them with all the services and account security that they need.

These transactional emails are a great way to connect with your customers. This type of email is expected and is an easy way to suggestive sell and get your customers thinking about your business. Many of these emails can be set up to be sent automatically using specialized software. Consistency is key. Making sure your transactional emails and brand remain consistent will go a long way in proving your professionalism and growing your business.
