Super Bowl 50 is now just a few short hours away. Get the deep frier out, buy the beer, come up with your best excuse to show up late(or not at all) on Monday and get ready for some football! The Broncos and Panthers are lead by two very different quarterbacks. Peyton Manning has already mentioned that this is his “last rodeo” and Cam Newton is in his mid-twenties. Old and modest vs. young and flashy.

As a business owner, you’re the quarterback of your business. You’re the leader of your crews, they look to you for play-calling and rely on you to clutch up during important plays. What can business owners learn from one of the youngest QBs in the NFL? Here are six lessons that Super Bowl 50 quarterback, Cam Newton, can teach you about running a successful green industry business.

Have fun

Whether or not you like the guy, Cam Newton has fun playing. He is known for his post touchdown celebrations. He loves the game and isn’t afraid to show it.

You chose to go into the green industry for a reason. Maybe it was because you wanted to own your own business, or work outside instead of behind a desk or are passionate about working with customers. Have fun when you’re out on the job. The work you do should be enjoyable and it should be apparent to your customers.

Give and you’ll receive

After every touchdown Newton scores, he gives the football away to a young fan in the front row. The “Sunday Giveaway” is something that he started in 2011 and he has kept going after the Panthers score (except for this time).

He gives away the football as something extra. He doesn’t have to. It is something that makes him unique and now it is one of the things he is known for. Your something extra might be upgrading a customer's service unexpectedly.

Stand out

This might be another polarizing trait of the 26 year old QB. He is flashy and stands out. Check out the pants he’s wearing here! He sticks out. Now, you probably don’t need to be wearing zebra-print pants while you’re out on the job, but there are other things that you can do every day to stand out. Maybe leaving a job extraordinarily clean. Or donating your services to the community every year. Do something different that makes your company stand out.

Make your team better

Former Panther, Steve Smith, was quoted saying “he makes guys around him better by what he does”. Are you making your employees better everyday? What are you doing to develop their skills and careers? When you’re a business owner, you need to lead and be positive force in your worker’s lives.

Show your team some love

Ok, minus his fight with Josh Norman. But he regularly pumps up his team. Also, check out his cleats for warm ups. Some might say that is just another flashy move to get himself attention, but still, he is highlighting his teammates.

You’re only successful if your crews are successful. Pump them up. Give them a reason to show up and deliver their best work.

Run the ball yourself

Cam Newton runs the ball more than most QBs. He uses his size to his advantage and is able to make a difference on his own when he needs to.

There are times where it might make more sense for you to go out on a certain job. Maybe you know the customer is going to be difficult, so it would be important for you to handle any issues before they arise.
