We're not a marketing company (despite two posts about it in the last two weeks). But we do develop and support field service management software, and then need to market that to service businesses. That's how this whole post came about.
I created this document to help myself and my team be mindful when creating a marketing piece. All marketing needs to revolve around a few core principles when it comes to creating something. Ask these questions to stay mindful:
- What is your goal?
- What action do you want people to take?
- Who are you trying to talk to?
- How will you get them to take action?
- How does this support your brand?
If you're not asking, or more importantly, answering these questions, then your marketing will not be as effective as it could be. And as competitive as the service industries can be, you need to be at the top of your game when it comes to setting yourself apart. Solid marketing and branding can help with that.

A Note on Timing:
Timing is one of the easiest things to forget when creating a marketing piece, especially one that you're going to send out to people. Service companies like lawn care have a good sense of it due to the seasonal nature of the business, but whether it's obvious or not, your customers will have their own "ripe time" to reach out to. Make sure your efforts are timed to succeed.
