It can be hard to keep up with the ever changing world of technology. There is always something newer, better, or just plain cooler out there. If you are looking into replacing your hardware, needing a new device, or are just interested in the tech world, then we are sure you have been hearing about the current dispute between Apple and Samsung.
And if you are like me, you may be confused about what exactly is going on right now, so I decided to share with you the facts of what is going on and what you can expect in terms of how this dispute may affect you.
Apple filed a lawsuit back in April stating that Samsung had 28 smartphones and tablets that copied iPhones and iPads. Samsung tried to counter this with a claim that Apple used their wireless technology without proper compensation.
Samsung’s claim was rejected, but the jury unanimously agreed with Apple’s claim. Apple wants all of Samsung’s smartphones removed from stores. They will not, however, recall any products already sold to customers.
In case you are one of those in the market for a new device, here is a list of smartphones that Apple is requesting Samsung remove:
- Galaxy S 4G
- Galaxy S2 AT&T
- Galaxy S2
- Galaxy S2 T-Mobile
- Galaxy S2 Epic 4G
- Galaxy S Showcase
- Droid Charge
- Galaxy Prevail
Note: The newest Samsung device, the Galaxy S3, is not affected by this lawsuit or the jury's verdict. Samsung tablets are also not affected by this lawsuit, and are in no danger of being pulled from store shelves.
This verdict not only affects Samsung, but other competitors of Apple as well. They will have to be careful about infringing on any of Apple's patents, which can be tricky.
As always, you should pick the device that best suits your company’s needs and budget. We would just suggest holding off on purchasing a Samsung smartphone until this particular lawsuit is settled, in case the smartphone you buy is removed shortly thereafter.
