Buy Your Field Service Business “Old” Devices for Cheap!

field service businessThis past weekend was my mother’s birthday.  As a gift from my siblings and I, we offered to buy her a smartphone.  My mother was resistant to the world of smartphones for quite some time but finally realized the benefits of it and decided she was ready.  So off to the store we went!

My mother decided she wanted an iPhone, since it was the simplest for her to understand and use.  When we got to the store, the salesman turned out to be a friend of my brother’s.  He wanted to help us get the best deal and told my mom that if she waited until the new iPhone (iPhone 5) came out, she could get the iPhone 4S for cheaper…around $50 to $100 dollars cheaper!  We all agreed it would be best to wait for the new phone to come out so we could get a deal on the phone my mom really wanted.

So the question is, if you don’t need the newest and “flashiest” phone for your field service business, why not wait until a newer and “flashier” phone comes out and get a steal of a deal on the “old” phone?  Other companies, such as Samsung and HTC, also offer deals similar to Apple’s.  And it’s not just for phones either!  Tablets and iPads have been known to drop in price when a newer version comes out.

We know it can be fun to have the newest gadgets out there but think about if your guys need new phones out in the field.  Maybe you don’t feel like buying the newest (and most expensive) device.  Buying the next best version, or even two or three versions behind, can be a great alternative.  They complete the basic tasks required without having all of the other fancy apps, features, etc.

Do note that these deals all vary on where you buy your phone, which phone you want, and what kind of contract you sign, but we highly recommend that if you need a new phone (but don’t need the newest phone) that you look in to one version lower.  The deals can be pretty great and you still get the luxury of a smartphone that can do the job you need done.  We suggest you ask the sales people in the store what they have been hearing.  They usually know if there will be drops in prices once new devices come out, and most are willing to help you find the best deal possible.
