When tragedy strikes, I think we all feel that human instinct to help out. Some of you live in the area and can physically assist those is need by cleaning or working at relief shelters. Other field service management companies want to do their part, but aren't able to physically be there.
HindSite feels that way and so I did some research on ways we can help that can really have a positive effect while still being as simple as a few clicks of a button. Here’s how:
Amazon Wedding Registry – I know what you are thinking, “A wedding registry?” But honestly, this was an awesome idea thought up by some people born and raised in our home state of Minnesota. These people set up a “wedding registry” so you can buy items needed by victims. Go to either this site or this one, where a list of the items is set up. Things on the list include flashlights, solar powered cell phone chargers, shovels, fuel, diapers, toothpaste, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and winter coats, among many other things that hurricane victims are in need of. You select the item you want to purchase and it is sent to the people who set up the “wedding registry”, who then bring it to those in need.
Direct Relief International – This is an organization that offers medical assistance to those affected by a disaster. They equip healthcare providers with medicines, supplies, and equipment to help care for the patients. Click here to find out more and make a donation today!
Donate Blood – Get out and donate blood. Many people were injured due to the storm and the blood supply has been running low. This is something simple you can do on your lunch break. It doesn’t take very long and you even get snacks after. Who doesn’t love snacks? Click here to find out more.
American Red Cross – American Red Cross offers a special section on their site specifically for Disaster Relief. You are able to donate any amount you wish and can even sign up to give on a regular basis to help others in need, not just those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Text a Donation – Most of us are on our cell phones most of the day, might as well do a good deed in between your games of Angry Birds. Below are text donation campaigns that are currently operational to help raise funds for storm victims:
- Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross
- Text SANDY to 80088 to give $10 to Global Giving
- Text AID to 50555 to give $10 to Operation USA
- Text RESPOND to 50555 to give $10 to Church World Service
- Text CONVOY to 50555 to give $10 to Convoy of Hope
- Text BLESS to 50555 to give $10 to Operation Blessing International
When disasters strike, a lot of us feel helpless because of how big of an impact the damage does. These are simple ways you can help others miles away in a matter of seconds.
