Mobile Field Service Devices: Nexus 7 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

Many people have been saying the new Nexus 7 is just a less expensive version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, which is great considering the tab can cost upwards of $200.  While this may be true, we wanted to do a comparison of the two to see which mobile field service device would be best out in the field.

**** The Galaxy Tab 2 offers a 3-megapixel, rear-facing camera as well, while the Nexus does not.

There are a few features and aspects of each device that could be the deciding factor between the two.  First is price.  The Nexus 7 is about $50 cheaper (depending on where you purchase it from). It also has a slightly longer battery life, which to some contractors is crucial.

The Galaxy Tab definitely isn’t going down without a fight, however.  It offers much more storage/memory.  This is good for those concerned about running out of memory (however most field devices could work perfectly fine with an 8 or 16 GB device).  It also has a rear-facing camera, so if your guys take pictures out in the field, this could be a necessity for you.

As we always say, you have to choose devices that work best for your individual company.  Each company has different mobile field service software requirements and each will require different features from a device.  Do your research, ask friends, and don’t rush in to a purchase.  The worst thing you can do is buy the “newest and coolest” device out there, only to find out it doesn’t work for your company.

Good luck!
