Leave Your Mark at Your Snow Plowing Sites

By David Crary

snow plowing businessAdvertising your snow plowing business can be a little tricky.  It’s easier to put up signs and hang door hangers when the weather is sunny and warm, plus you usually have a longer season for your Green services – like landscape management and fertilizing  allowing you more time to reach out to customers and show them your work.  The hours of plowing are also a disadvantage when it comes time to market your snow plowing business.  The unusual hours mixed with your trucks always being on the go makes it difficult for any neighbors or potential customers to see your branded trucks parked outside the property.

While it is definitely more difficult to get your name out there in the colder months when all anyone wants to do is stay indoors and never leave their fireplace, there are ways to promote your business without spending a fortune!

  • Lawn Signs – Lawn signs aren’t just a spring and summer tool.  Have some signs made up with your company logo, number, and if it fits, the snow plowing services you provide.  Place the signs at the entrance so every person driving in or driving by will see your name.
  • Snow Stake Covers – If you are using snow stakes,  buy snow stake covers.  Brand these covers with your logo, website and number.  If the company or customer does not want your logo all over their snow stakes, try to find a compromise where the stakes will show “Caution” with your logo below it.  It isn’t as showy but still gets your name out there.
  • Snow Barrels – If you leave barrels out at properties with ice melt in them, brand them!  A logo and phone number printed on the outside is just one more way to get recognized.  Having barrels that are brightly colored (such as orange or yellow) is a great way to attract attention in the otherwise white environment.

After asking around I have found one of the best ways to advertise is a clean slate.  A clean parking lot, driveway, or sidewalk are all great ways to show off your work.  The only issue with just relying on a clean slate is that no one knows who provided the clean slate.  You did a great job but no one knows you did it.  Signs or any of the other suggestions above help give potential customers a number to call when they want the same great service for their property.

While these solutions may not cause a wave of calls to come in asking you to service them, they are always an extra way to increase your presence and gain recognition for a job well done.  It’s okay to brag a little when you do a good job, so why not advertise the great job your team did?  Just remember to always ask before setting up whichever marketing tactic you choose to use.  You don’t want to upset the customers that are already paying you while working to gain new ones.
