There are hundreds of ways to improve a business.  You can hire a tech specialized in certain services, purchase a state of the art piece of equipment, or improve your marketing techniques to draw in more prospective customers.

Assessments are another option when you are looking for ways to improve your business.  Assessments provide the icing on the cake for the ultimate data collection through field service software.

First off, what are assessments?

Depending on the industry or the person, assessments can go by many names.  Some of those names include surveys, evaluations, inspections, or measurements.  The list goes on and on.

Assessments are a series of questions or statements that help collect additional information from the field.  Things such as make and model number, customer satisfaction, and quality control can all be gathered through assessment questions.  The assessments will usually pop up on a field tech’s device once he completes a work order using his mobile field service software.

How field service software can help

Using a field service software allows the assessments to pop up before an employee can complete the work order for that property.  This makes the assessment a necessity, not something they can skip over or scribble down on a note pad.

With a mobile field service software, you are also able to receive the information back in the office quickly.  This allows you to review on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis crucial information to make your business better than the average Joe.

How your business will improve

Assessments are like having a second pair of eyes out in the field.  They allow you to ask all of the questions and receive all of the information you need from a customer’s site, without having to physically look over the techs shoulder, ensuring they are gathering all of the data.

Marketing can be a real struggle for a lot of small Green industry businesses.  I know when I ran my irrigation business I always fought with what was the best way to reach customers and what do I talk to them about to keep myself present in their mind.  Assessments are a great tool to gather when a part will need to be replaced, or that a tech spoke with a customer about installing a new system in the near future.  You can even go further and ask what services they wished your company provided to help you plan for the future of your business.

Depending on the questions or statements you choose to have in your assessments, you are able to provide great customer service.  You will have the information before the customer will think to ask for it.  Plus, if you use the assessments to ask about customer satisfaction, you will get a report at the end of each day telling you which techs need work, or which customers need a little extra attention.

Once the basics of your business are established, assessments are a great next step for your company to take on.  Assessments can gather plenty of useful information in the matter of minutes.  All it takes is a tech asking or looking for the answers to each question and tapping a button to enter the information.  No more lost or messy paperwork, and no more guys getting lazy or forgetting to ask the questions.
