5 Spring Cleaning Tips for your Snow Removal Business

spring cleaning

For those of us who are lucky enough to live in the land of snow and ice, it's that time of year where we all begin to cross our fingers and hope that we won't see that sparkly white stuff for at least another nine months. And for those of us who own a snow removal business, it's the perfect time to get at some good old-fashioned spring cleaning. Along with the big meltdown of all that snow comes the need for a fresh start. Here are 5 tips to help you get started:

1. Clean out unnecessary paperwork (and install snow removal software so you won't have to do it every April or May)

After a long winter of snow and ice, I'm sure you have about as much paperwork piled up (on the computer or on your desk) as there were piles of snow these last four months. Now that it's all finally beginning to melt (knock on wood), take this time to clear all of that dead wood out. It will leave you feeling rejuvenated and you'll have literally lightened your load. I might be biased, but if you install Hindsite's snow removal software you will never have to clean out that paperwork again because the software will manage all your data for you. Think about it.

2. Clean up your desktop and inbox

Now that you've cleaned out any and all unnecessary paperwork, why not have a nice clean desktop and inbox to match? I know better than anyone how cluttered and disorganized a computer desktop can become. It's amazing how much better you'll feel if you simply drag a few old items to that little trash icon.

In addition, why hoard anymore of those old emails? I know it might take some time to sift through which emails are important and which simply are not, but it'll be well worth your time to finally be able to find the important ones. And, if you're like me, you probably get incredibly busy - especially during a major snow event, so you never had time to delete all that junk email you received. Well, do it this spring!

3. Wash your equipment

Now that you've gotten the boring stuff out of the way, time for the fun stuff. Spend the next 50 degree Saturday and wash and shine that equipment that was undoubtedly put to work this winter. Not only will a thorough clean keep your equipment working in tip top shape but it will also keep them looking as good as new, so you can impress your customers next winter season. When you take care of your equipment you are taking care of your business.

4. Check your tires and fluids

If you have time on that beautiful Saturday, take some time to check out your tires and to see if you're stocked up on fluids. Fast forward 8 or 9 months from now, you'll end up thanking yourself for checking them when you did. For how unpredictable the weather has been lately, you never know when it'll snow in July or sleet in September.

5. Clean up your bulletin board

What good is a bulletin board if you can't actually see what's on it? Your snow removal business is undoubtedly a busy one and I without a doubt understand how easy it can be to just pile things on top of one another. Again, take this time to throw out what you don't need anymore and to organize what you do.

Now that you got all that cleaning out of the way, why not improve your business with snow removal software? Download our free eBook, the Snow Removal Software Buyer's Guide, for tips on what to look for in snow removal software.
