It is finally here! The month that fully signals spring in the minds of many people. To celebrate the arrival of the season -- as well as to highlight the fact that nearly everyone's thoughts to turn beautifying their lawns, April has been designated as National Lawn Care Month by the National Landscape Industry Association. As a lawn care business, you can expect plenty of your competitors to tie into this fact in an effort to highlight their services. You can stand out from the crowd, though, by making sure that the green aspects of your business are the ones that are emphasized.

Market the Green

If you have been in the lawn care business for any length of time, you know the competition is fierce with new players that seem to come on the scene at a dizzying rate. As more of your customers become aware of the advantages of going green, you need to make sure the fact that your lawn care business uses earth friendly techniques is a primary focus of your marketing materials. From your business cards to your logo, you need to make references to being green and friendly to the earth on them. Given their small size, though, you will not have room to go into great detail. You can, however, make a reference to your website so that your customers -- both current and potential --- can gather more information about your techniques.

Make Your Website Shine

Your website is often the first time a customer encounters you. Even if they see one of your business vehicles out on a job, chances are they are not going to question your employees about your services and business practices. Instead, they are going to search for you online and see what you products and techniques you use in your green industry business.

You need a website that is professionally designed and updated on a regular basis. On that website, a primary focus should be that you are a green business. Not only should you state that you are a green business, you also need to explain the ways that your lawn care business is green and how that makes you different than other similar companies in your area.

What to Highlight on Your Website

It is great to say that you are a green business but your customers are going to want to know concrete ways that make this distinction true.

  • If you are still in the process of becoming a green industry, provide information about the steps you have completed thus far as well as your plans for continuing the process for the future.
  • Many localities offer a certification program for green businesses in their area. If you have attended and completed such as program -- or if you intend to do so in the near future -- post information about it on your website.
  • Scan a copy of your completion certificate and post it to your website. This is a distinction that not many of your competitors is likely to have and one that you should be proud of.
  • Outline the implementation of green efforts that your employees are undergoing as well as the program that you are using to further that effort.

National Lawn Care Month is the perfect opportunity to remind your customers that green does not always have to mean just their lawns. Integrating green elements into your lawn care business can help them enjoy a healthier and more beautiful lawn for 2015.
