The 3 Essentials Rules of Managing Change

Nobody really enjoys change.  It’s difficult adding new things into your daily routine, whether it be a new employee, new technology, new project, etc.  But change is needed to grow and succeed.  Think if you never changed your entire life.  Would you ever get anywhere?  Probably not.Handling Change

Here are some tips to help you deal with change:

  • Prepare yourself - For example, our company is currently going through a change of employees.  One key member to our team is moving on and others in the company are filling in for his responsibilities.  Have a plan for the transition you are going through.  If it’s a new project, write up an outline so you don’t miss a step.  You will feel much better about the change if you have some frame of mind of where you will go with it.
  • Ask for help - Sometimes change can be just plain mind boggling.  Technology, for example, can be truly confusing.  It’s okay to ask for help!  Call tech support when trying to figure out a new device, or ask some of your more tech savvy employees.  It’s far better to admit you don’t know what you don’t know and get the right help, than to struggle for who knows how long.
  • Relax – Change can be stressful.  Whether it’s moving locations, learning a new project, or adapting to a new employee, the uncertainty can take a toll on you.  Remember to give yourself breaks.  Take a walk to clear your head, take a weekend off from work to relax with family, go out for a night with friends.  We guarantee you will come back to work the next with a clear head.  Don’t let the change consume you, let it be a positive thing.

We are not saying this will be an easy process.  Trust us, we don’t like change any more than the rest of you, but it’s a must in life.  And honestly, it can be truly beneficial to your company.
