Small Business Tips: 5 Ways to Quickly Generate Leads

By David Crary

Lead generation strategies seem to always be changing.   Between flyers, mailers and email blasts, your lead generation should be flowing like the Mississippi, so why isn't it?  The truth is that there are hundreds of ways to generate leads for a small business. We are here to remind you of what they are and how to tap into them.

1. Networking Events

These events can be as simple as a coctail hour, or as big as a business summit like the HindSite Summit coming this Fall.  An event like this allows business owners and employees to network with their peers and learn what's new in the industry.  Our business summit for example, will feature a few speakers who bring different view points of the industry, a chance to mingle and converse with other businesses and a tour of Churchill Downs in Kentucky.   An event doesn't have to be as in depth as a business summit, just an organized mingling of peers is enough to network and learn from seasoned vets.   If you haven't joined a networking group, think of that as the first step; then move on to hosting your own and watch the leads pour in!

2. eBooks

EBooks are great for the field service industry as it becomes more and more digital.  What you should aim for with eBooks is informative, entertaining writing.  Don't write an eBook as a salesperson, no one will read it. People in small business want to research and be informed, not sold to.  Keep a neutral voice and include valuable information relevant to your specific industry.   Since eBooks are digital, write them accordingly, don't assume that readers will be captivated with the first word, break it up with examples and images to keep readers engaged.  Have a simple form required in order to download the eBook so that your leads will go into into an organized pool.

3. Newsletters

Newsletters can really help in lead generation when you have a pool of potential leads to send to.  This is another place that being too pushy or "sales-y" can hurt.  Put together a well thought out and informative monthly newsletter to send to those who will be interested in it, and actually open and read it.  These newsletters have no use in the spam folder.

4. Blogs

A blog is one of the best ways to generate leads, just make sure it's accessible to your audience.  Make it easy for them to receive emails or notifications from the blog.  Keep consistent and link it to your social media platforms for maximum visability.  If you are consistently writing about interesting and useful topics, you will quickly become a reference for your audience; and this will lead to more leads (no pun intended).

5. Video

Video is a little more advanced and time-consuming, but use it anyway.  If you take the time to produce a great video, you will have more engagement, afterall, not everyone likes to read on screens. The trick to video is that they have to be entertaining as well as well-produced.  If you have the funds, hire a great videographer to produce it.  If not, do some research and see what you can do.

We hope these tips will help generate more leads for your business. Below you can download our most recent eBook and see what we at HindSite think a good eBook should look like, maybe get some social media tips along the way!
