3 Things Your Snow Plowing Business Can Do While Waiting for the Snow

It’s a waiting game being in the snow plowing business.  You can’t do much until that first snow falls (and actually accumulates to something), which can be a bit frustrating.  That’s why we came up with 3 things you can do while you are waiting around for the snow to start falling.

Now to be fair, there are many things you can do waiting around for a winter wonderland, but how many of them are productive or beneficial for your business?  That’s what we thought…and no, sadly, watching football doesn’t really do much for your business.

So here we go with 3 productive things to do with your time until snow season hits!

  1. Go to conferences – There are tons of industry conferences going on throughout the year that you, as a business owner, can and should attend.  Industry conferences are a great source of information and resources for your business.  You can learn about new equipment, techniques, and regulations that will be coming up.  Industry conferences usually have experts speak about their experience in the industry and you also have the opportunity to connect with business owners just like yourself.  It’s a great place to make new connections, all while learning more about how to manage your business.

  2. Perfect your snow plowing software skills – Being part of a field service software company, we know things are constantly changing.  There are always new features that can be learned, or easier ways to manage your business with the software that you just weren’t aware of.  Set up some time with your software company to learn these new things.  Go over a retraining before your busy time starts.  It never hurts to have a refresher course, especially if you haven’t touched the software in a while.  It will make your first couple weeks a lot less stressful once that snow starts falling.

And yes, we did make the assumption you have  snow plowing management software.  If you don’t have it or are just curious to learn more, click here.

  3. Organize your office and trucks – I now have a rule for myself before I can go grocery shopping.  I must look through my cupboards to be sure I am not going to buy something I already have.  I can’t tell you how many times I have bought spaghetti sauce or crackers only to come home and find that I had some hidden in my cupboard.  The same may be true of your business.  Unorganized offices and trucks can lead to “lost” parts.  Don’t spend money on things you already have but just can’t find.  Spend a weekend cleaning and organizing your business.  Then make an inventory list so you know exactly what you have.  This is not only a good productive thing you can do, it also could help you save a lot of “lost” money.

Sometimes it is easier to just sit back and wait for things to happen, like the snow to fall, but why not be proactive and cut out some of your stress ahead of time?  Even if it is something as simple as cleaning your desk or restocking your coffee supplies for the winter, you can find little things to help get you ready for the next snowpocalypse.
