If you're human, regardless of what business you are in, chances are you always think about being a bit more successful than you were yesterday. Or the day before. It's human nature to want to strive for greatness. However, when your days get hectic it can seem impossible to carve out even a tiny bit of time to help you optimize your success in both your personal and professional life. So what do successful people do in order to create more success, happiness, and a sense of calmness in their lives? Research shows that successful people reach their goals not because of who they are but because of what they repeatedly do: positive habits. These habits are what propel them to the next level.

Here are ten things successful people do every day:

1. Meditate. Meditation was once a word that most people only associated with Ghandi or the Dalai Llama. However, now it seems that meditation and its success stories are popping up everywhere. You don't need to be experienced or have a lot of time on your hands to become a practicer of meditation. All you need is five minutes, maybe it'll be in the morning when you wake up or at night before you go to bed. Or maybe it'll be during your lunch break. In the field service business, it's difficult to get a minute to ourselves, make it a priority to find a quiet and peaceful place to close your eyes and calm your mind. If you start to make a habit out of meditation you'll be surprised how much clearer your mind becomes.

2. Organize. An organized space makes for an organized mind. Is that a saying? If not, it should be. I know that when I'm working in a cluttered area my mind feels cluttered. If you're reading this in your office and you're looking around and you can barely see your desk, or the floor for that matter, take some time to clean out your workspace. If you're in the green industry business, chances are your workspace is your vehicle, this applies to you as well! Once your workspace is clean watch your mind become clearer too.

3. Exercise. Most people who can claim that they exercise daily do so in the morning. So, if you're not an early bird now, maybe you should think about becoming one. Then again, if you think you can fit a daily workout in in the evening hours instead, go for it. It's no secret that exercise has countless benefits to both your physical and mental health. Successful people excercise because they value their health and they know how important it is to take the time for themselves. So, if you can't remember the last time you laced up those tennis shoes and your dog looks like he could use a walk too, take a nice walk or jog tomorrow morning. Your body and your mind will thank you for it.

4. Network. Network. Network. Network. In the green industry business it's important to maintain the connections you make and also make an effort to continue to make new ones. In my experience, I have never heard a saying to be more true than "it's not what you know but who you know." Life is short and so much of it is about the relationships we have to people.

5. Don't forget to say thank you. No matter how much success you see in your lifetime, don't ever lose your appreciation. Successful people remember to say thank you because chances are at one point they started at the bottom of the totem pole and worked their way up. Success looks so much better on those who are grateful for it.

6. Listen to their gut. If you look back in history and remember the big names in business, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, Ray Kroc, and Bill Gates, you'll realize that they all took a chance and followed their intuition at some point. Chances are their guts told them to go for it and boy, did they go for it. As cheesy as it sounds, don't forget to follow your heart. Or your gut.

7. Prioritize. In business it can be easy to lose sense of what's most important. Keep a list of what you and your business most value to keep handy at all times. This way, during times of chaos, you and your employees always have it to revert back to. Better yet, maybe write your priorites in large letters on a big visible white board so that they can be seen at all times. Successful people keep their priorities in check.

8. Have a passion. Do what you love. I have always felt that the luckiest people in the world are those who get to make a living doing what they love. If you like your business but you wouldn't call it your passion in life, find ways to incorporate your passion, whatever that may be, into the daily workplace life. You'll inspire others and even better, you'll inspire yourself.

9. Time manage. Keep a planner. Wear a watch. Do whatever you have to do to efficiently and effectively spend your time. Successful people and businesses owe much of their success to their ability to spend time wisely.

10. Spend time with family. All successful people have a balance in their lives. "Successful" doesn't only mean economic success in the business realm, but it also means overall satisfaction with personal life as well. Family will keep you grounded, give you a new perspective, and will always support you. Make sure that you never lose sight of the importance of the people who love you and you're already on the road to success.
